![]() ![]() We run a full 4K 12G SDI based DaVinci Resolve finishing studio here with a dedicated Hardware Panel and a calibrated 10bit SDI Rec.701 reference monitor for Mastering. Out of interest, what specialised software do you use? Yeah, I master out in high end formats, but along the way I use Resolve for dailies (H264), editorial (varies by job - mainly DNx115MXF), WIPs (H264) to global stakeholders), VFX turnovers (DPX with H264 reference), sound mix (mostly H264), transcription for subtitling (H264), music cue sheets (H264), final script mark ups (H264) etc, etc, Even the first submission to AACTA requires the file to be H264.I use Resolve's MP4 export abilities from shoot day 1 through to award submission, so yeah, I am very interested in MP4 exports. Please remember the Resolve is a very powerful tool used across many areas of creativity. ![]() Out of interest, what specialised software do you use? I work in the professional market, and Resolve is a great "Swiss Army Knife" for me, so I have to respectfully disagree with you. ![]() We usually Master to a DPX Sequence then encode our Deliverables 'as required' using specialised software. I'd be quite happy if a Resolve's only Export format was uncompressed and/or. Some NLEs like HitFilm have even integrated compositing/effects into a single solution but that's another topic.Ĭraig Marshall wrote: I think the professional market base for DaVinci Resolve is not at all interested MP4 Exports. We shouldn't be forced to use 3rd party GUIs or learn FFMPEG to use Resolve. The most common comment since ver 12 in NLE software reviews is universally that it is handicapped by it's limited support of input and output formats vs the competition. I'm afraid this traditional Pro workflow may have affected BMDs thinking in their efforts to convert Resolve into a turnkey edit solution. ![]() "Near lossless" intermediates allowed files to be passed through multiple programs and to multiple computers with minimal loss. DNx, ProRes etc have been around for a long time and were needed back in the days when multiple programs were needed for editing like when Resolve was used for color only. Panasonic GH5 and DJI are using H.265 already and it will become more popular as a delivery codec with 4k and HDR TV. HEVC/H.265 is here offering higher quality and smaller file sizes at the same bitrate reducing bandwidth. AVC/H.264 is the most popular and widely used camera capture and delivery codec compatible with virtually all media devices, TV's, digital broadcast and the web. At $30K per license BMD might survive in the Pro market only, but at $300 they may need the rest of us. In the Pro world that may be true, but not for the rest of us. Tero Ahlfors wrote:Exporting a high quality master and then transcoding that into web/broadcast/whatever versions is actually a fairly common workflow. I would like to renounce PremPro completely and only work with Resolve in future. You can certainly do that at least as well. Or does this only work in the " studio" version? Unfortunately, you did not publish the comparison chart on the website any more. Have you perhaps integrated a H264 codec with a level less than 5.1? If I am properly informed, Level 5.1 is the minimum for UHD encoding. So the export-combination "UHD, MPEG4 or QUICKTIME and H264" is not possible!īut as soon as I have downgraded the UHD material to HD resolution, the export works again. At the time I am testing Resolve v 14.09b and I am largely very satisfied.Īlmost all of the export conditions I have tested (Format / Codec / Resolution) in the "Deliver" area are okay ( I think, the DNxHR HQX 10bit problem is already known to you).Īlso QUICKTIME with H264 and MPEG4 with H264 work best - as long as the resolution is not higher than HD (1920x1080P).īut always when I want to export the resolution " UHD" after the beginning of the rendering process with either QUICKTIME with H264 or MPEG4 with H264 immediately I get the error message: " Recording failed with error: Failed to encode the video frame." No crash! Only failure message and stop the rendering process. ![]()
